Plants, in the
form of fruit and vegetables, are essential for a healthy diet. Plant foods contain flavonoids that act as antioxidants and these are known to reduce cell damage
and therefore help prevent major diseases. Dark chocolate
with a cocoa solid content of 70% or more is a good source of these
flavonoids.
Good quality dark chocolate
can reduce blood pressure and also improve insulin sensitivity. It
also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by reducing LDL cholesterol
oxidation.
Our dark chocolate
contains 72.5% cocoa solids. The more cocoa solids there are in a chocolate the
less sugar and fat it can contain. Our dark chocolate also contains no
milk solids and is therefore dairy free. And because we add
nothing to the chocolate other than natural flavours we also know that
our chocolates are gluten free.
Diabetes UK,
the
largest organisation in the UK working for people with
diabetes, state that "It
is a myth that people with diabetes
can't eat chocolate."
They also say that diabetic products "offer no special benefit to
people with diabetes, and still affect blood glucose levels (and are
often higher in calories and fat than 'real'
chocolate)." "People
with diabetes should eat a normal healthy
balanced diet, the same
as anybody else. This can include a
biscuit or some normal
chocolate as long as it is done in moderation."
